Tompkins Workers' Center to Rally Outside County Legislature Meeting on
Tuesday, May 1st, (4:45 to 5:30 p.m.) Urging Legislators to Pass
Resolution in
Favor of NYS Minimum Wage Being a Living Wage
(Ithaca) The Tompkins County Workers' Center is spearheading a Rally at the
doorsteps of the Tompkins County Courthouse (corner of Court and Tioga
Sts. in Ithaca) on Tuesday, May 1st, from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. The Rally is
being held immediately prior to the Tompkins County Legislature meeting
that begins at 5:30 on the same day and will call attention to
the fact that it is unacceptable and immoral that the New York State
Minimum Wage remains a paltry $7.25/hour. The Rally participants will thus demand that the Minimum
Wage be increased to a Living Wage, or $12.78/hour, (sign the petition) supporting a
Resolution that will be brought forward and voted on at the Legislature
meeting, that strongly encourages the NY State Government to make the
Minimum Wage a Living Wage.
The timing of the Rally is perfect, as May 1st has long been known as
International Workers' Day. This year, the Workers' Center will be
joining with Occupy Ithaca and Occupy Cornell on May 1st for the Rally
as well as for a day of events that begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Bernie
Milton Pavilion on The Commons. See schedule below:
