Following last weeks brutal assault by Oakland Police on their peaceful assembly - which left Marine, Iraq War Veteran, Veteran for Peace, and Occupy Movement supporter, Scott Olsen hospitalized in critical condition among the wounded - Occupy Oakland had their largest General Assembly attendance to date. With over 1,600 in attendance and voting, they passed a proposal for a "general strike" in Oakland to take place this Wednesday, November 2nd. The proposal passed with an amazing 96.9% approval.
Oakland has experience another such general strike in it's history, in 1946. The Oakland General Strike of 65 years ago however, was spurred by more spontaneity that seemed to follow the inspiration of a sweep of similar actions around the nation at the time. This time the strike is being officially called for, organized, and broadcast.
It should be a very interesting Wednesday in Oakland, this November 2nd, as The People rise up as one against capital corruption and governmental oppression. Let us all keep our eyes on Oakland, as our hearts remain in unity.
